Recently the Lord prompted me to give a large sum of money to one of my sons. When he asked me to do that, I said to Him, “But Lord, I need the money myself.” He continued to prompt me to give it. My response back was, “Ok it is your money. It’s not mine and I will do as you ask.” 

When I went to give it to my son he was very hesitant and did not want to receive it. He took it after some persuading. I then disobeyed and only gave him half what the Lord had told me to give because of fear. I did not get very far out of my son’s presence when the Lord told me to go back and give the rest of what I was instructed to give. My son was very upset and did not want to take more money from me but eventually understood that it was the Lord doing it so he took it. 

Weeks before this incident I had received a phone call from a friend offering to pay for any financial need that I had at that time. I said thank you but I am doing good. I learned the very next day that I owed 1,000 dollars for something that came up out of nowhere. I just couldn’t imagine allowing someone else to pay for what was my responsibility so I did not reach back out to ask for the money that was offered to me the day before. I tried to figure out how to come up with the money so I did not have to humble myself and reach out.

As I was trying to figure out how to come up with the 1,000 dollars the Lord showed me something. What my son had done to me, I in turn was doing the same to the person who wanted to help me. In the end, I obeyed and received the large sum of money that I needed to pay for the bill that had come up unexpectedly. After this was done I questioned the Lord, “Why would You have me give money that I didn’t have to my son, only to in turn have to ask someone else to now pay off my unexpected bill.” In my mind it just seemed wrong. It didn’t make sense. He answered immediately. I heard this scripture verse.

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than yours, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8-

Once I had determined that it was the Lord doing this, who was I to then question it. My only response to Him should be immediate obedience. Anything else is rebellion. After He gave me the scripture verse I then had a vision. I saw a river and in the middle of the river was a very large rock. He showed me that He is the river and there is always a flow. It is always moving forward. It never goes backwards. I was that rock, I was that obstacle. I was in rebellion to what He had asked me to do. You would think that my rebellion would make the flow stop but instead it goes around it. One way or another He will have His good and perfect will for everyone’s life and situations. I can join Him in full obedience moving in that flow or I can become a rock in rebellion and He will go around me. He will find someone else that will fulfill what needs to be done. When I become the rock in the river I will miss out not only on the blessings I would have received but also the instructions for the next thing that I am to do.

I learned way early in my walk with the Lord that if I am not hearing from Him that I need to go back to the last thing that He told me to do. If I have not done it, He is waiting for me to do it so that He can give the next instruction. I want to be in the flow. I don’t want to miss the blessing and I most definitely want the next instruction for what He has for me.

“Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and stay there; behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” So he arose and went to Zarephath, and when he came to the gate of the city, behold, a widow was there gathering sticks; and he called to her and said,” Please get me a little water in a jar, that I may drink.” 

And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, ”Please bring me a piece of bread in your hand.” But she said, “As the Lord God lives, I have no bread, only a handful of flour in the bowl and a little oil in the jar; and behold, I am gathering a few sticks that I may go in and prepare for me and my son, that we may eat and die.” 

Then Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go, do as you have said, but make me a little bread cake from it first, and bring it out to me, and afterwards you may make one for yourself and for your son.” 

For thus says the Lord God of Israel, “The bowl of flour shall not be exhausted, nor shall the jar of oil be empty, until the day that the Lord sends rain on the face of the earth.” 

So she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and her household ate for many days. The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord which He spoke through Elijah. 1 Kings 17:9-16
