“He did not answer him.” Matthew 27:14
As Pilate was questioning Jesus, he wanted Him to defend Himself. Pilate knew what the chief priests and elders were accusing Him of, but Jesus chose to stand mute. Notice I said, “Chose.” It is a choice. He is an example for us when we find ourselves in situations like this. He could have defended himself in many ways but He chose to not say a word.
What I have found in many situations in my life is that it is better to stand in silence. When I know that I have heard from Him I can move forward with complete confidence and peace knowing that I am in His will. If I know what I have said or done is right I do not need to defend myself. It does not matter if things come against or try to stop what I am standing in. I can stand in silence. I do not need to defend myself. He who gave me the instruction will Himself protect and defend me. This is a way to honor and know Him.
Words make trouble. Peace comes when I stand in His complete will in silence.
“My soul, wait silently for God alone, for my expectation is from Him. He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved.”
Psalm 62:5-6
Father, help us to remain silent when we are being accused of things that we did not do or say. You are the great defender, Jehovah Nissi! It is to You that we look.
