“Fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2
These words are found in a line in the song, “This Is Amazing Grace (Live)” by Bethel Music & Jeremy Riddle. The first time that I heard that line I was struck and I had to stop and ponder it. I envisioned my Lord, who is holy and majestic, seated on His throne. I then saw Him stand and come down to a cold dark world.
I saw him entering into a world where our very air, water and land are polluted with sin and darkness. Even my own selfish life has that sin in it as well. No matter where I go on this Earth, the results of sin are seen everywhere. As we get closer to His return that is only going to get worse.
Just the thought of this majestic King leaving His throne of complete holiness to come down here and be mocked, beaten and hung on a cross to die for me is just so hard to comprehend. His motive was pure love and that remains even today. After having pondered all of this, I then had to ask myself, “Am I living in such a way that this would honor the sacrifice He made? The action that He took saved me, made me whole and worthy to be called His daughter. I know of no other king than my King Jesus who would do such a thing.
Lord, I thank You that you did not hesitate to leave Your throne to come and rescue us! May that profound act of love compel us to live out holy lives until You return and take us home.
What other king leaves his throne?
“Worthy art Thou, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for Thou didst create all things, and because of Thy will they existed, and were created.” Revelation 4:11
