“Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to 10 virgins, who took their lamps, and went out to meet the Bridegroom. And five of them were foolish, and five were prudent. For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them, but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps. Now while the Bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. But at midnight there was a shout, “Behold the Bridegroom! Come out to meet Him.” Then all those virgins rose, and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the prudent, “Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.” But the prudent answered, saying, “No, there will not be enough for us and you too; go instead to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.” And while they were going away to make the purchase, the Bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with Him to the wedding feast; and the door was shut. And later the other virgins also came, saying, “Lord, Lord open up for us.” But He answered and said, “Truly I say to you, I do not know you.” Be on the alert then, for you do not know the day nor the hour.” Matthew 25:1-13
It has only been in the last couple of years that I understood this to be a picture of the rapture. With this revelation about the scripture it brought it to a whole new level for me. I recently heard a pastor speak on this verse and the points that he made were things that I had not seen or thought about.
He shared all the things that the 5 foolish and 5 wise virgins had in common.
- they all knew the Bridegroom
- they all knew the Bridegroom was coming
- they all knew they needed oil
- they all knew the door would be shut
- they all arrive on time
- they all waited
- they all tire and fall asleep
- they all trim their lamps
- they were all virgins
The only difference is, five had enough oil the other five did not. I believe the oil represents the Holy Spirit. We must be filled with the Spirit. We must remain in and full of the Spirit right up until He comes. We each must have that relationship with the Holy Spirit that leads and guides us every day into the truth. Everyone needs their own oil, your own relationship with the Holy Spirit. We cannot give away our Holy Spirit (oil) to someone else. Each person must seek out that filling of the Holy Spirit and have that close relationship with the 3rd person of the trinity.
We must stay awake, be alert and our lamp full for His soon coming return. We do not want to find ourselves suffering the consequences from our lamps not being full.
Is your lamp full?
“However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth.” John 16:13
