“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” James 3:17
Wisdom comes from one source, and that is God. It is an understanding and knowledge that comes from the deep relationship I have with the Lord. It’s knowing beyond knowledge. I fervently want the wisdom of God as I make daily decisions.
When the Lord came to Solomon in a dream He asked him this question. “Ask what you wish Me to give you.” At that moment he could have asked for anything, but his request was for wisdom. Scripture says the Lord granted him more wisdom than anyone before him or who would come later. Scholars have estimated Solomon to be 12-20 years old at that time.
What teenage young man do you know that would ask for wisdom instead of riches? What is really amazing to me is that the Lord told Solomon because he asked for wisdom and not the riches, He would grant him the other as well. So he was given riches, honor and long life in addition to wisdom.
I truly feel that as I seek the Lord for wisdom for all my situations just like Solomon I will receive the other as well. I think that they are connected and a package deal. When wisdom is sought first the others come along with it. The next step after receiving the wisdom is to immediately obey.
God demonstrates His wisdom to the world through the obedience of His people. When others around us see how we are blessed through seeking His wisdom and obeying they will long for it as well. Wisdom is not what I know about my circumstances or the world but how well I know God. Human reasoning will not make me wise.
Oh Lord, thank you for the wisdom that You give me daily that keeps my feet walking on the right path and my heart moving in the same direction as my feet!
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” Proverbs 9:10
