“Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, this is the way, walk in it, whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left.” Isaiah 30:21

I have a very sweet friend who shared with me something that was happening in her life at that time. It was very encouraging. What she shared with me was the same way the Lord operates with me. What I have found is when the Lord calls me to partner with Him, He will confirm it multiple times and ways. That’s what He was doing with her.

When He calls me, there is an anointing that goes with it. The anointing is the power, authority and provision to do what He’s called me to do.

“But the anointing that you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about everything, and is true, and is no lie-just as it has taught you, abide in Him.” I John 2:27

And as with everything there is a season. There is a time frame for what He wants to accomplish through me.

“For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1

So before I even start to do what He has called me to do I know that I will have the anointing and that it is only for a season. When the season is up I can literally feel the anointing begin to leave.

I am now standing with my friend and she is sharing what she feels the Lord has called her to do. She felt the Lord was asking her to crochet scarves for the homeless people in our community. I could see how excited and driven she was to crochet these scarves. Although the messages she received mentioned knitting, she only crochets but the results are the same. (she has since signed up for a knitting class) She was crocheting as fast as she could. Through these messages, it was the insatiable drive that she had that motivated her to crochet almost every sitting moment. That is what surprised her, and from these messages, she knew it was from our Holy Father. There is the “anointing”. As she began crocheting the scarves, no matter where she turned or what she read she found herself reading the word knitting over and over again. Each time she would share with me this encounter. Here are a few examples.

The first message was through Alistair Begg’s devotional on faithfulness where he mentions his visit to a French WWII memorial. He was surprised to see a commemorative plaque for knitters during the war. Alistair said, “Stay faithful, and the Lord will strengthen you for whatever role He’s calling you to –whether knitting or flying– for the glory of Christ.  Do what you can, for what you can do He will use.” It confirmed to my friend that she is to “knit” scarves for the homeless.  A week later she received a second message through Alistair on a totally different subject, but he mentioned knitting again.

The third message came from one of her devotional books citing Psalm 139:14 “For you created my inmost being: you knit me in my mother’s womb.”

The last one was her devotional by Tim Keller on Psalm 145:10-21. The Psalm doesn’t speak of knitting, but Tim did when he prayed “Lord, since it is you who feed us and you who meet our needs, ordinary human labor such as farming, cooking, and knitting have great dignity.  They are means by which you love your creation. Help me to sense that dignity so I can do the simplest tasks to Your glory. Amen.”

I was then able to share with her God is confirming in a very powerful way that she was fully walking in His will. She was doing what He had called her to do. She has crocheted 60 scarves. After some time she found that the drive wasn’t there any longer. When she shared that part I said, “That’s because the anointing is lifting. The season is over and now your assignment is done. You can put it down and just get ready for what He has next for you.”

If this is something new to you the next time you feel the Lord prompting you to say or do something, pay close attention because He will confirm it in different ways.

Walking with Him is always a delight!

“In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.” Proverbs 3:6
