Dropping Seeds of Truth

“But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come.” John 16:13

When my son’s were little I loved to read to them. I couldn’t wait for bedtime. That was my favorite time of the day. I would give the boys a bath and put them in their jammies. Then we would crawl onto our king size bed and I would open the pages of a book and begin reading. We would all snuggle in close and just get caught up and taken away with the story. I do believe all the years that I read to them they too enjoyed it. There was a book and it was titled, Miss Rumphius.

Miss Rumphius’s name was Alice. As a young girl her grandfather came from across the sea to live by her. He carved figureheads for the prowls of ships. He also carved out Indians to put in front of cigar stores. He was an artist. Alice would help paint the skies in his artwork. Alice said to her grandfather, “There are two things I want to do. I want to travel the world and live by the sea like you have.”

Her grandfather said, “There is one more thing that you must do. You must do something to make the world more beautiful.”

As Alice grew up and grew old she accomplished the first two things by traveling around the world and living by the sea. It was then, in her old age, she remembered what her grandfather had said to her. She must do something to make the world more beautiful. She loved Lupine flowers. The idea came to her to order a bunch of seeds so that wherever she went she could drop the seeds along the path. The next year she saw that everywhere she had planted the seeds there were flowers popping up making the world a more beautiful place.

The other day I was down in the polebarn working by myself cutting out dresses for the shoe boxes. I felt the Lord drop into my heart, you need to plant seeds of truth wherever you go. It had been at least twenty three years since I had read the book, Miss Rumphius. At that moment I was reminded of the story. I remember at the time the story having a big impression on my heart. Oh how the world has changed in that short time.

I now find myself in a world where the truth is almost non-existent. Very few people know the truth or want to walk it. Truth is being buried, hated and mocked. People are in fear of speaking the truth. The only truth that we have left is the word of God. I realize the time is now for me to stand in the truth no matter what the circumstances are. Here’s what the Bible says about the truth.

“You will know the truth and the truth will set you free.” John 8:32

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and morrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12

“I am the way the truth and the life.” John 14:6

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is true.” John 17:17

“All Your words are true; all Your righteous laws are eternal.” Psalm 119 160

These are the things that truth will bring when you walk in it; peace, joy, freedom, light, life and illumination. It can and will change the atmosphere around you when spoken. When we speak truth it brings Him because He is truth.

Paul said that he was imprisoned as a criminal and suffering hardship, but the word of God is NOT imprisoned.

The chorus to the song Battle Hymn of the Republic is as follows:

“Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on!”

Nothing can or ever will stop His truth from moving forward. I personally want to be part of that forward movement. How about you?

Start today to drop those seeds of truth wherever you go. Let’s make the world more beautiful!
